REAL BODIES at Bally’s History
The first REAL BODIES exhibit took place in Tampa, Florida in 2005. Since then, millions worldwide have seen the exhibit. REAL BODIES at Bally’s Las Vegas opened on August 1, 2016. Created by Imagine Exhibitions, the exhibit invites visitors to take a deep look at the human body not just through a scientific eye, but also through a historical, emotional, and cultural viewpoint. When you tour the exhibit, you’re not just looking at a display of the human body. Instead you’re seeing what it means for humans to be alive. That connection is what drives the exhibit and all that’s contained within it.
REAL BODIES: The Main Attraction
While there are many art installations throughout the exhibit, the main attraction, of course, is the well-preserved bodies. The preservation process is called “polymer preservation”, although sometimes called “plastination.” This process prevents the body from decaying and can take up to one year to complete. Once completed, the finished work allows visitors to see some of the best well-preserved human specimens in the world. Visitors walk through the exhibit and examine the human body system by system to view and understand more of how the human body operates.
The body systems that are examined throughout the REAL BODIES exhibit are divided into galleries such as:
● BREATHE (Pulmonary system): How we breathe.
● HUNGER (Digestive system): How we eat and digest food.
● RHYTHM (Circulatory system): The blood vessels that work to carry blood to and from the heart.
● MOVE (Musculoskeletal system): The connection between the bones in the body and muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc. that comprise our body.
● THINK (Nervous system): The nerves and cells that transmit signals throughout the body.
Visitors will want to check out everything at the exhibit, including:
● An ancient anatomist study with unique human and animal specimens
● The Fan Wall
● Wall of Bones
● Kinetic sculptures
● Catacomb style recreated environment and wedding chapel
● Love locks on the fence
