How the San Diego Explorer Pass Works

The San Diego Explorer Pass is a digital pass that admits you to the attractions of your choice. You simply walk right up, display your pass to have it scanned, and you’re off!

The San Diego Explorer Pass lets you select 3, 4, 5, or 7 options out of over 60 different choices. You choose the denomination of the pass ahead of time, when you buy it, and you can’t add or subtract attractions later.

The San Diego Explorer Pass can be downloaded straight to your phone via the Go City mobile app. The Go City mobile app is free to download, but if you’d like you can just print out your pass at home using your order confirmation e-mail.

You can use your San Diego Explorer Pass for up to 60 days after activation, which occurs when you visit your first attraction. You can activate your pass at any time for up to 1 year after purchase.

Strong Points of the San Diego Explorer Pass

Because the San Diego Explorer Pass is a digital product, you don’t need to worry about your pass being mailed to you or leaving home without packing it. As long as you get out the door with your smartphone in hand, you’re good to go!

When you purchase your San Diego Explorer Pass and download the Go City mobile app, you have access to a number of digital resources. These include most notably a free digital guidebook. There you’ll find all sorts of helpful tools such as attraction information, maps, itineraries, and more.

The San Diego Explorer Pass also comes with a 90-day cancellation policy. If your plans change for any reason in the first 90 days after you purchase the pass, you are eligible for a full refund. This flexibility will help give you complete peace of mind as you plan your trip.

What Could the San Diego Explorer Pass do Better?

The San Diego Explorer Pass does come with one notable exclusion. It will only grant you admission to either the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. That means if you want to visit both of these popular attractions, you’ll need to pay for one of them out of pocket. If you want to visit both, you might try a Go San Diego Pass which allows you into both.

The San Diego Explorer Pass does not include any transportation options, which means you’ll need to map out your route from attraction to attraction on your own. However, certain local attractions, such as Old Town Trolley Tours’ 2-Day Hop-on Hop-off Trolley Tour, can be used to get from place to place.

Typically speaking, the Explorer Pass will not cover special exhibitions at museums, meaning you’ll have to pay out of pocket if you want to enjoy any such outings.

Get Your Money’s Worth with a San Diego Explorer Pass

With so many options available to you as part of your San Diego Explorer Pass experience, you’ll want to prioritize attractions with the most expensive gate prices. That way, you’ll maximize your savings. Then, if there are still other attractions you want to visit, you can simply pay for the less-expensive sites out of pocket.

If you will be traveling with children, make certain to take advantage of Go City’s special pricing plan for children ages 3-12. Depending on the type of pass you purchase, you could save approximately 10% on tickets for the kids.

Group discounts are sometimes available for the San Diego Explorer Pass. If you know you will be traveling as part of a group of 10 or more people, contact Go City directly to inquire about a special rate.
