San Diego Tourist Pass

With mild weather year-round, barely any rain, and miles of gorgeous coastal landscape, San Diego is an extremely popular vacation destination. More than 30 million people visit each year.

The region is home to the largest naval fleet in the world, and many residents are in the military or defense industries. The Marine air station at Miramar and Naval bases in Point Loma and San Diego are just a few of the more prominent locations. The aircraft carrier USS Midway is visited by hundreds of thousands of service members and others each year at the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum. The San Diego Maritime Museum is also nearby.

The San Diego Zoo is one of the largest in the world. Its 107 acres are home to more than 4,000 animals, including a California condor and a pair of giant pandas. SeaWorld San Diego is only a few miles away in Mission Bay Park, and has sea lion and otter shows, polar bears, beluga whales, manatees, and many more marine animals and sea life.

You can see the Padres play at Petco Park, or the NFL’s Chargers, who play at Qualcomm Stadium. With San Diego being on record as the largest city never to win a Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, or an NBA championship, sports fans are ever hopeful, but talk of a citywide curse abounds.

Historic Balboa Park is home to several museums along the central boulevard, El Prado, including the San Diego Museum of Art, the San Diego Museum of Man, the San Diego Natural History Museum, and the Museum of Photographic Arts. The park’s 1,200 acres were set aside for public use in 1835, and today there are several distinct gardens within its grounds. Renowned landscape architect and horticulturist Kate Sessions laid out much of the park’s plantings in the late 19th century using local and drought-resistant plants.

La Jolla, at the northern end of San Diego, draws surfers, beachcombers, snorkelers, and marine scientists alike to its seven miles of coastline. Just a half hour farther north is Carlsbad, California, and Legoland, a theme park based on the famous building blocks.
