The Pier 39 Attraction Pass is a mini vacation pass that gives you free admission to the Aquarium of the Bay, a hop-on-hop-off trolley tour, and your choice of one of two different cruises. The San Francisco Bay Cruise Adventure, which offers a view of the waterfront, before passing under the Golden Gate Bridge, past Sausalito, and around Alcatraz Island. If you’re interested in hearing more haunting tales of Alcatraz, opt for the Escape from The Rock cruise, which is a narrated 90-minute cruise around the entire island, complete with tale tales and true stories about some of the early 20th century’s most hardened criminals.

The pass also includes a “Pier 39 Fun Pack,” which has coupons for discounts at Pier 39 (aka Fisherman’s Wharf) shops and restaurants. The Aquarium is at the pier, and the cruises leave from there, so the coupons can come in handy between attractions.

You have 7 days to use all of the attraction tickets, so there’s no rush to see the aquarium and do both tours in one day.

The San Francisco PIER 39 Attraction Pass is no longer available. Vacation Pass recommends the Go San Francisco Pass as a step up. It includes the all the attractions (plus about 20 more) and is in the same price range.

What’s Good?

This pass is a good way to get an overview of San Francisco, both from the water and on a motorized cable car.

What Could get better?

The Escape from the Rock tour doesn’t stop at the island, so it’s not a good choice if you’re hoping to explore inside.

The trolley only runs until 3 pm.

If you are planning on seeing more while you are in San Francisco, you might be more interested in a San Francisco CityPass, an iVenture Flexi Pass or a Go SF Card

Get Your Money’s Worth with the PIER 39 Pass

The pass costs around $58, and admission to the aquarium and tours is normally around $66, so this pass does save some money, but in the summer it really pays off by letting you skip long ticket lines for the cruises.

Insider Tips

Although you can use the hop-on-hop-off trolley tour all day for transportation between neighborhoods, have a back-up plan and Muni map in case of crowds or trolleys that may be off schedule.

Dogs on leashes are allowed on the cruises.
