Australia Sightseeing Pass

The Australia Sightseeing Pass is a little different from the typical inclusive smart card passes or admission vouchers. For about $400, you receive eight coupons that are good for sightseeing tours all across Australia. Each tour will tell you how many coupons it costs. For example, the Melbourne Penguin Parade is two coupons, the Sydney Blue Mountains Nature Experience 4WD is four coupons, and Hobart Highlights tour is one coupon. (All tours for kids age 4 through 14 are one coupon.)

You have to specify the city in which you’ll redeem your first tour, but other than that it’s entirely flexible. The pass includes tours in and around Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns and Barrier Reef, Adelaide, Perth, Alice Springs, Hobart and Launceton, and Darwin.

There is no expiration date for the coupons.

What’s Good?

You can use the Australia Sightseeing Pass in combination with smart card city passes like the Sydney Sightseeing Pass or the See Melbourne and Beyond Pass to add more off-the-beaten path excursions to your trip on the days before or after your smart card pass is valid. As with any tour provider, itineraries can change, so call ahead to confirm that the tour you’re booking has not been revised since the guidebook was printed.

There are no extra fees, but gratuities are not included, and many tours include stops for lunch at your own expense, so be sure to have some cash on hand.

The card is available at many outlets. You can buy it at Expedia, Orbitz or Travelocity or you can buy it once you get to Sydney* but these are not great options as you may pay more. The best place the buy the card is at the Viator website.
