How the Philadelphia Explorer Pass Works
The Philadelphia Explorer Pass is a digital pass that grants you admission to your selected attractions. Simply arrive on location and get your Explorer Pass scanned at the entrance gate to gain admission.
The Philadelphia Explorer Pass offers you your choice of 3, 4, 5, or 7 attractions out of a total of some 31 options. You purchase the denomination of the pass in advance, and can’t add or subtract attractions later.
The Philadelphia Explorer Pass is designed to work seamlessly via the Go City Card App. This well-regarded app can be downloaded for free, but if you’d rather not do so then it is no problem at all to instead print out your Explorer Pass.
The Philadelphia Explorer Pass is valid for 30 days after you activate it with your first attraction visit. You have one year from the date of purchase to use the pass.
If you have a smartphone, you’re in luck, as all Go City Card products are accessible digitally. This means never having to print out your pass or needing to wait around for your pass to be mailed to you before you can use it.
All Go City Card passes also come with a free digital guidebook. This is such a tremendously useful resource for you as you go about planning your trip. The digital guidebook contains attraction locations, operating hours, maps, contact details, and more, all in one spot on your phone. This means you won’t have to hunt down information about attractions from a bunch of different websites.
The Go City Card is a dynamic service, one that is constantly evolving to better cater to the needs and desires of its customers. As a result, throughout the year attractions are often added and/or dropped. You’ll want to monitor the list of available Philadelphia attractions to see if somewhere interesting has been added to the mix since the last time you checked!
What Could Get Better?
Some customers find the Explorer Pass’ ever-changing list of available attractions to be somewhat annoying, as it does create the occasional bit of uncertainty. No one likes to make a plan to visit a given attraction only to learn at a later date that it is no longer a viable option.
Likewise, if you’re a big museum buff—and what a terrific assortment of museums there are available through the Philadelphia Explorer Pass!—please keep in mind that frequently the Explorer Pass does not include admission to special exhibitions housed within specific museums.
If you want to go paperless with your Explorer Pass, you will have to download the Go City Card app. With all the apps floating around our phones these days, that’s not the most appealing thing for some users. If you don’t want another random app taking up space on your phone, skip the download and just print out your Explorer Pass instead.
If you wanted to experience more attractions, take a look at the Go Philadelphia Pass.

Get Your Money’s Worth with a Philadelphia Explorer Pass
The Philadelphia Explorer Pass advertises savings of up to 40% on combined admission prices. This statistic is based on a comparison of the amount you paid for the Explorer Pass with the amount you would pay to tour all of the attractions you might visit with the pass.
It can be a challenge to figure out in advance exactly what your actual savings will be, especially since your savings will vary depending on how expensive the attractions you choose to visit are without the Explorer Pass. Therefore, a smart tactic is to always use the pass to cover the priciest attractions, and just go ahead and pay out of pocket for an attraction that is less expensive (or features a suggested donation).
Guided tours and cruises usually run the most expensive at gate prices, but you can use the Go City Card website at any time to look up standard attraction prices.
Another neat feature available on the Go City Card website is their “Savings Examples” tab. This webpage compiles and tracks real savings percentages from actual Explorer Pass customers.
Philadelphia Explorer Pass Insider Tips
The Philadelphia Explorer Pass is active for 30 whole days. That means if you’re able to visit Philadelphia during a holiday weekend, or just for a few days here and there, you can spread out your Explorer Pass usage without feeling rushed or needing to cram everything into a short period of time.
Many of the attractions available through the Philadelphia Explorer Pass are located close to one another geographically. If you know there is a certain attraction you want to visit for sure, take the time to look at a map and see what other attractions covered by your Explorer Pass might be situated nearby. This could save you a lot of time, effort, and money, as parking throughout Philadelphia is never cheap!
Occasionally, certain attractions will require you make advance reservations. In these instances, you might even have to provide a credit card so as to book the reservations. However, you will not be charged anything at all unless you do not show up at the scheduled time. Simply call up the Go City Card website attraction page to learn if the attraction you’re interested in requires reservations; if it does, you’ll find it marked with an “R,” as well as more details about how to make such arrangements.
