How the Go Shanghai All-Inclusive Pass Works

The Go Shanghai All-Inclusive Pass is an all-digital pass that provides admission to the attractions you want to visit. Present your pass at the gate for admission, and pay nothing at the gate.

The Go Card format allows you to purchase the pass in durations of 1, 2, or 3 days. You can visit as many attractions as you can fit in your included day, with no exclusions or limitations other than the operating hours of the attractions.

The pass is designed to be used through the Go City Card App. It’s free to download, and easy to use. However, should you prefer not to use it, you can simply print out the pass.

The Go Shanghai Card is only valid for the number of consecutive calendar days once activated (i.e., once you visit your first attraction).

What’s Good?

All Go City Card products have gone digital – a convenient way to travel in an increasingly high-tech world. No need to remember a ticket booklet or paper tickets, just your smartphone.

Another strong benefit to the digital nature of the pass is the instant delivery. You don’t need to play very far in advance to use the product, and can even purchase it once you get to your destination.

This can also help if you are monitoring their site for discounts. They often have sales around the holidays, so you can purchase last-minute once you see the price drop.

Because of the changing tourism market, the Go Shanghai Card may expand to include new attractions over time. This can be an exciting way to see new things you didn’t even know about.

The pass comes with a free digital guidebook including maps, contact information, operating hours, and location for all of the attractions included in the program. It can be essential when trip planning and certainly saves you a lot of time.

What Could Get Better?

While it’s certainly a plus that the Go City Card program adds new attractions as time goes on, it can be a negative when they drop one you were interested in. The key is to check the site right before you travel to make sure the things you are most interested in are still part of the program (Note: this is more likely to happen with smaller attractions; the big-name stuff is pretty much guaranteed to stick around).

The pass does not cover most special exhibitions or extra experiences at places like museums, aquariums, and zoos. This will add to your out-of-pocket expenses should you choose to enjoy some of those options.

The pass must be used with the app if you want to enjoy the digital benefits. This can be frustrating for those you who prefer not clog up your phone with extra apps. However, it is free and you can always delete it after your trip. Or, as mentioned, you can print the passes out.

Most other Go City Card products include extra discounts on things like shopping and dining, which is not the case in Shanghai. This can make it even harder in what may be a very different city for some to find places to eat and shop. It also slightly decreases the value of the pass overall.

The pass doesn’t include some of the most popular attractions in the city, including the Shanghai Tower (the highest observation deck in the world) and the Shanghai Museum (an elegant and expansive art museum). If you wanted to visit them, you’d need to pay out of pocket.

Get Your Money’s Worth

At the moment the Go Shanghai Card is advertising savings of up to 55% off combined admission prices. This is calculated by comparing the amount you pay for the pass with the amount you would pay for all of your chosen attractions combined.

Unless you’re inclined to do some careful math, it can be hard to figure out what you’ll save exactly. A good way to get an idea of how you can save is by looking over the “Savings Examples” tab on the Go Shanghai Card website. This includes real examples from actual customers and effectively demonstrates how much you can save.

Of course, the best way to maximize your savings is to use the pass for the most expensive attractions and save the inexpensive stuff for later (assuming you run out of time to visit everything with the pass). Although Shanghai is not a very pricey city overall, you’ll still pay more for things like museums, major label attractions, and tours or cruises.

For the Go Card product, you’ll also maximize your savings by visiting your attractions first thing in the morning, and going all the way until they close. Obviously, the more different things you can fit in a day the higher value of the pass will be. If you wanted to move at a slower pace consider the Shanghai Explorer Pass

Go Shanghai Pass Insider Tips

As mentioned above, you save the most when you do the most. The best way to facilitate this is by using the map on the Go Shanghai Card website to see which attractions are located close to one another. Then, build your itinerary around clusters of different attractions.

Because the pass comes in different durations, it’s actually quite handy for a trip to Shanghai, whether you’ve got a layover as part of a broader trip or a long weekend to spend just in this amazing city.

There are multiple observation decks included with the Go Shanghai Card; the best one included on this pass is the Shanghai World Financial Center. If you only do one, make it that one.

Where to Buy the Go Shanghai Pass

The Go Shanghai Card is sold by many online vendors as well as many concierges in Shanghai but will pay full price. You can get a nice discount if you buy it at the official site and wait for a sale online.
