The Old Town Trolley Tours Company was founded by three friends back in the 1970s. Originally based in Key West, FL, the immense reception that Chris Belland, Mo Mosher, and Ed Swift received convinced them that their mission to give visitors a way to “See the Best First” was a successful one. Old Town Trolley Tours has operated in San Diego since 1989 and still offers one of the best and most unique ways to view the city.

Old Town Trolley Tours History

Chris Belland, Mo Mosher, and Ed Swift were good friends and history buffs living in Key West in the 1970s. Their passion for their town along with its rich background led them on a journey to restore and preserve the integrity of Old Key West for generations to come. Starting out with a repurposed bread truck and a used trailer, by 1980 Old Town Trolley Tours was so popular that the three friends were able to purchase an entirely new fleet of vehicles and begin to look towards expanding their business to other areas of the country. Along with those in Key West and San Diego, Old Town operates 130 trolleys and gives tours in 6 U.S. cities including St. Augustine, FL, Boston, and Washington D.C.

Today, the fleet of vehicles responsible for Old Town Trolley tours is decked out in an emblematic orange and green. Each tour is given by a trained conductor/tour guide who will take visitors through the rich history of the Old Town and other areas of San Diego while peppering in amusing anecdotes and quips. Time and time again, Old Town Trolley Tours has been rated among the most entertaining and enjoyable options for touring in San Diego. This includes being named a California Air Resources Board “Small Business of Excellence” and being given an Energy Star Small Business Award.
