One of the most unique a popular tours in all of LA, the Red Line Hollywood Behind-the-Scenes Tour takes visitors to places they simply cannot see on their own or with another tour company. Consistently ranked among the best of ways to really “see” Hollywood, the Red Line Behind-the-Scenes Tour is a must for everyone who really wants to know the truth behind LA celebrity.

About Red Line Hollywood

Red Line Tours was started in 1999 by Tony Hoover, a Hollywood transplant who grew up in a small town in Indiana. When he came to LA, Hoover saw a need for a tour company that provided a uniquely LA experience including in it “what most tours miss.” That is, with the Hollywood Behind-the-Scenes Tour, Hoover wanted to offer guests a sneak peek into LA life that they couldn’t get anywhere else.

Unlike many other LA-based tour companies, Red Line is a small operation run by Hoover and Operations Director Michael Hernandez, along with a handful of knowledgeable and vetted tour guides. Each guide is versed in the history of Los Angeles and Hollywood as well as the modern secrets of the celebrities who call the area home. Because of this, each offers a personalized experience through detailed walking tours that last 75 minutes apiece and can be tailored to groups.

One of the hallmarks of the Red Line experience is what is known as “Live-Audio”. This system was designed with the busy streets of Hollywood in mind and allows all tour guests to hear their guide clearly despite the ambient noise of the streets. The system allows each guest to be fitted for a headset which projects the tour guide’s voice to them. It also allows for translators to easily conduct private group tours in concert with Red Line in languages other than English.

About Red Line Hollywood Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Red Line Tour Company’s Hollywood Behind-the-Scenes Tour is a world famous walking tour that takes visitors to famous and infamous spots all around Hollywood. In addition, the behind-the-scenes tour also lets guests in on some of the area’s best-kept secrets including hidden celebrity hangouts, famous movie locations, and the theatres and history for which the Hollywood area of Los Angeles is best known.

Some of the highlights of the tour include a stop at the Dolby Theatre, home of the Academy Awards, as well as visits to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and several other (secret) locations along the way. Throughout the tour, guests will be entertained by information about the history of Hollywood including how the area got its name and the story behind the famous “HOLLYWOOD” sign. Each guide is an LA native who provides important personal knowledge about the experience of living in the area and peppers that into his or her tour. With a focus on history and little-known facts, this tour is not so much a schoolroom-type lesson as an entertaining way to experience the highlights of Hollywood in an up-close and personal fashion.

Red Line Tours is located at 6708 Hollywood Boulevard, on the grounds of the Egyptian Theatre. Their walking tours are set at a gentle pace, running three times daily except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Oscar Sunday. Adults and children 9-15 must buy tickets. In addition, groups of 20 or more can book private, personalized tours with the company.

Why the Red Line Hollywood Behind-the-Scenes Tour is a Must-Do

For many visitors to Los Angeles and Hollywood specifically, the draw of so many famous spots and entertainment options may make a tour seem redundant. Many former Red Line customers report that the experience of walking up Hollywood Boulevard with Red Line Tours opened their eyes to the intense and interesting history of the area in a way that no other experience could.
