    What's Good

  • The New York Pass's major strength is the great diversity of attractions included. As one reviewer from Australia said on their site, "If it's not on the card, it's not worth seeing." Families with young kids, first-time visitors, museum aficionados...all kinds of interests are met with this pass.

You have a year from the date of purchase to activate your pass for the first time, so it's easy to order in advance.

    What Could Get Better

  • Some other vacation passes include a 2-day Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour and other city bus tours as part of the attractions, but with the New York Pass, the bus tours must be purchased as a separate option.

Parking is very expensive, especially in Manhattan, and isn't included in the admission price of most attractions. Fortunately New York City has extensive public transportation options.

Get Your Money's Worth

Travelers who prefer peace of mind or who think there's a possibility that their plans may change can purchase New York Pass insurance for 4.5% of their order total. If you're unable to activate your pass for any reason, you can receive a full refund.

You have to do a little research to make sure you're getting the most for your money. For example, adult admission to the Met, MoMA, and the Guggenheim is only $58 total, whereas a one-day adult pass is $80, which would cost more. You'll get the best value by also taking advantage of the bike rentals and cruises that are part of the basic New York Pass.

Some of the best values include Madame Tussaud's wax museum (normally $35.50 per adult for admission), the Circle Line river cruise ($34), and Central Park bicycle rental ($49).

Insider Tips

For the shortest wait at the Empire State Building, go to the ticket window in the 2nd floor. Even though you can skip admission lines, Empire State Building security limits the number of people who can be in the lobby at one time, so you still may have to wait. The best way to avoid crowds is to go in the morning, before 11 a.m.

Most visitors find that they don't need to see both the Empire State Building observation deck and the Top of the Rock observation deck. Both skyscrapers are only about a mile apart and offer similar views, so you can choose one based on other nearby attractions you plan to visit or for the extras, like audio tours.
