There are a couple of vacation pass options in San Francisco, but the San Francisco CityPASS offers pre-paid discount admission to five major attractions, plus unlimited Muni and cable car rides, making this a great choice for visitors who want to save money by taking public transportation. The $64 booklet ($39 for kids) includes tear-out tickets for the Cal Academy of Sciences, the Aquarium of the Bay, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and a Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise so you can take in the views from the water. The pass is good for 9 days from the first time you use a ticket, so you can fully enjoy all of the attractions and still have plenty of time for strolling, shopping, and enjoying this famously foodie city. The bonus option on this CityPASS lets you pick between the fine arts at the de Young Museum or the hands-on, kid-friendly Exploratorium.

    What's Good

  • The San Francisco CityPASS is a great mix of touristy activities like the SF Bay cruise, and cultural attractions like SFMoMA and the De Young Museum.

You can skip the lines at most attractions with a City Pass.

    What Could Get Better

  • The San Francisco CityPASS doesn't include tours of Alcatraz.

Muni and cable car passes are available from the SF Municipal Transit Authority for 1, 3, or 7 days, so do the math to see if it's really an added value for you in the Pass. The CityPASS isn't valid on BART, the subway system, only on Muni buses and cable cars. The Muni pass is also only good for 7 days, even though the City Pass is good for 9 days.

Get Your Money's Worth

Although you can only choose one from each pair of the bonus locations, your CityPASS does entitle you to discounted admission at the second location.

Insider Tips

Some other CityPASS customers felt that the Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of the Sciences was better than the Aquarium at the Bay, and that the latter wasn't worth it.

The Exploratorium is closed on Mondays.

Bring a jacket for the Blue and Gold Fleet cruise—it can be windy and cool on the water even on warm days.

Aquarium of the Bay doesn't validate parking at the Pier 39 Garage, but a lot of the nearby restaurants do so grab a bite at one of them before or after the aquarium.

Your pass is good for admission to both the Legion of Honor and the De Young Museum, but only if you visit both on the same day.
