The more you see, the more you’ll save in London with the London Pass from the Leisure Pass Group. Available in 1, 2, 3, or 6 consecutive day cards, the pass lets you visit 55 attractions in greater London for free. The pricing is not as simple as some of the other “prepay and go” cards, but the savings can be significant. The way it works is that you can see up to £80 worth of attractions per day (£45 for children’s cards) times the number of days your card is good for—so a six-day pass, which costs £95, is good for £480 worth of attractions.

Top attractions include the Tower of London, a Thames River cruise, the London Bridge Experience, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Windsor Castle. You can also add a Travelcard to your London Pass, which can be used for an unlimited number of rides on the Tube and busses. Check the guidebook for restrictions. The pass also includes more than 40 offers for discounted tours, shopping, and dining.

    What's Good

  • There is a lot of variety among the attractions you can visit with a London Pass, including the Tower of London, the London Zoo, the London Aquarium, St. Paul's Cathedral, Hampton Court Palace, and Windsor Castle.

    You can skip the lines at the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Windsor Castle, London Bridge Experience, ZSL London Zoo, and Kensington Palace and The Orangery. The lines at the Tower of London alone can be extremely long in peak tourist season, so this is a great perk.

    What Could Get Better

  • The pass is not exactly unlimited, as there is a maximum amount of admissions you can redeem per day per pass. However, you would have to see about five or six major attractions in one day to approach the limit, which is much more than the usual sightseer can manage.

    The London Pass does not include the very popular London Eye or Westminster Abbey.

    Unless you buy the 7-day London Pass with Travel, you cannot use the Tube until 9:30 am. This means you'll miss the worst of rush hour, but it may be a later start than you'd planned. You can use the busses at anytime, though, so consider that as an alternative.

Get Your Money's Worth

For a few extra dollars, you can purchase the London Pass with a Travelcard. This gives you unlimited trips on all London Underground, buses, trams, docklands light rail and over-ground trains within zones 1 through 6. Tube tickets are £4 each, and busses are £2, so the Travelcard is well worth the money if you plan to use public transportation. See "What Could Be Better" for info on restrictions.

Some of the best values are the Tower of London (normally £17 per adult ticket), the London Bridge Experience (£21.95), and the London Zoo (£18).

Insider Tips

The London Pass is activated at the first attraction you visit, and that counts as your first full day of use—even if you activate the card at 4pm. You'll get the most for your money by visiting your first attraction in the morning of your first day.

Always call ahead to confirm times, especially in the offseason.

Where to Buy it

The card is available at many outlets. You can buy it at Expedia, Orbitz or Travelocity or you can buy it once you get to London but these are not great options as you may pay more. The best place the buy the card is at the London Pass website. The 3 and 6 day cards frequently go on sale. If you are pressed for time, use the free voucher option.
