From Hollywood and celebrity culture to art museums and ocean cruises, the Go Los Angeles Card is a great way to sample the sites throughout the City of Angels and beyond. Smart Destinations popular unlimited admission cards let visitors pay one price and then see as many sites as they want for the duration of the card. In Los Angeles, sites include five major Orange County theme parks and tours of motion picture studios, plus outdoor excursions like whale watches.

This card lets you get away from the city, too, with attractions in Santa Monica and northern San Diego in addition to the theme parks north and east of metro Los Angeles.

    What's Good

  • The greatest strength of the Go Los Angeles Card is the sheer breadth of the included attractions. Almost everything a visitor would want to see in the Los Angeles area, as well as Orange county and northern San Diego area. Also the range of activities with 5 theme parks, a waterpark, historical sites, museums, and Hollywood tours, ensures that there is something for everyone.

The Go Los Angeles Card offers good savings for travelers who are planning on visiting the included amusement parks as well as a few great attractions. For example, going to Universal, Magic Mountain, Sony and Warner Brothers studio tours would save you $42 per person with a 3-day card.

You can use your cards on non-consecutive days. The card is activated the first time you use it, then you have 2 weeks to use the rest of your days. In the above example, you can go to Universal on a Monday, Magic mountain on a Wednesday and do the two studio tours on a Friday (relaxing in between).

Because each person has his or her own card, families can split up and visit different attractions based on their interests. Because of this flexibility, individuals or families can easily switch gears if they change their mind about an attraction, or if bad weather gets in the way of an outdoor activity.

The card also allows you to skip ticket lines at many places like Six Flags Magic Mountain and the Hollywood Behind the Scenes Tour—allowing you to save time, especially during the busy summer season.

In addition, the Go Los Angeles Card includes discounts to restaurants, including Ciudad and the Bonaventure Brewing Company, and retail locations such as American Girl and the House of Blues.

Lastly, the 125-page guidebook included with the passes is an invaluable resource and can help visitors get the most out of their Go Los Angeles Card and their visit.

    What Could Get Better

  • The big omission from the Go Los Angeles Card's offerings is Disneyland. If you are definitly going to Disney, you might purchase a shorter duration card for the days you are not at Disneyland.

The card is only good till 5:30 pm. For ways around this, check out the tip below.

The pricing of the card is tied to the assumption that you are going to at least 1 theme park. If you are only going to go to the museums, you might be better off without the card.

In the Winter, some attractions operate on limited hours, some only operating on the weekends.

Get Your Money's Worth

There are several ways you can make sure you get your money's worth. Generally, the more days you purchase for your Go Los Angeles Card, the fewer attractions per day you need to visit to get your money's worth. For example, if you buy a one-day pass, you'll need to go to several attractions; buy the seven-day pass and an average one attraction per day is enough to reap the benefits of the Go Los Angeles Card. I'm also assuming some of your visits will be to more expensive attractions such as the the Studio Tours and Theme parks.

Another way to save some money is to buy a one day card just to go to Magic Mountain or LegoLand.

Insider Tips

Your Go Los Angeles Card is activated by the first attraction you visit. Your non-consecutive day passes are not counted in 24-hour increments. For example, if you go to your first attraction at 4 pm, that counts as day one on the length of your card.

The attractions and theme parks are pretty spaced out and traffic is always an issue in LA so make sure you work in a little extra travel time. It's best to start your day early.

The Go Los Angeles Card is not accepted after 5:30 p.m. If you want to go to Magic Mountain at night, make sure you get there before the cut off time. You can stay till the park closes (anywhere from 6pm to 10 pm depending on the day and season).

If you plan well and are aware of the included extras—like dining, for example—you can save a lot of money on eating out and souvenirs. In most cases, these discounts are "show and save;" therefore you can get these discounts the day before your card is activated or the day after it expires.
